One question, shouldn’t there be a mix of content that markets your product and services and some stuff that talks about who you are to personalize and build a relationship?
Great question Steven.
It all depends on how involved your customers want to be with your business.
If are the “face” of your business and people buy from you because they like you personally, then you should do more. However, if you’re not the face of your business and/or they don’t really care to know you personally, then do little if any personal sharing.
I talk to my tax accountant 2-4 times a year. She does great work, but I have no idea about her family life, her hobbies, or her personal life. Frankly, I don’t need nor care to do so. When she shares tax-related info with me I hang on every word, but if she was to suddenly start sharing all kinds of details about her personal life, I’d unfollow her on social media because I’m busy and don’t have that kind of relationship with her. I buy a product/service from her just like I do from my plumber, my newspaper carrier and the person who hands me my brocolli cheese soup/greek salad You Pick Two at Panera’s.
In most cases, less personal is more. Do a little, to show you’re human, but most businesses do way too much.
