My entire first year as an entrepreneur was what I call “revenue free.”

That’s a polite way of saying it took me 12 months to get my first paying client.

Needless to say, I had many (many) dark days, wondering if this was what I was supposed to be doing.

There were two things that got me through that tough period, until I started generating revenue.

  1. I knew I was supposed to be an entrepreneur, and I kept imagining the day I would someday come face to face with God, and He would ask me, “What made you think it was supposed to be easy?” I never thought of myself as a quitter, and I wasn’t about to start now.
  2. RIDICULOUS. Whenever I thought about giving up and doing something else, I kept telling myself, “How RIDICULOUS would it be for me to quit now, after already putting in 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11 months!” The further I got into my dark first year, the more I emphasized the word RIDICULOUS, and truth be told, I added a few expletives for emphasis!

Building a successful business is not easy.

You will be tested every day, in ways you don’t even know right now.

But, if you ever feel like giving up, do what I did and ask yourself, “How RIDICULOUS would it be for me to quit now?”

And, if you are a person of faith, imagine God someday asking you, “What made you think it was supposed to be easy?”

And then keep moving forward.
