Technology has caught up with the distribution of information, but newsletters are still printed out and distributed to a fair amount of people. For those who are in charge of creating and distributing newsletters to the public, one of the most pressing issues will be the rising charges of paper and printing fees. If you find yourself in charge of the production of newsletters for magazines, charities or other projects, you should always keep in mind on how to lower the costs for printing, instead of relying on the quotations given by the manager of your print shop.

Here are a few tips on how to lessen the costs of printing newsletters.

  1. Look for several print shops around your area, and look for the cheapest price among these shops. You should also keep in mind the medium that you’re planning to use on your newsletter – the different types of printers have different types of effects and consumption, so do your research and if possible, classify and segregate the work to be done to the print shop that specializes on your need.
  1. Printers know best. Your printer(s) often know what the best type of paper and printer to use, and it may be helpful to ask them about recommendations on how to cut costs when printing.
  1. Decide on which type of paper is best for your newsletter. You may be buying paper that’s “good enough” for your newsletter, and this can add up to charges. There are different types of paper that work well enough for newsletters – the color of the paper (the whiter, the better), the weight (if it’s heavy, it’s more expensive) and the coating (glossy papers for magazines) can save you a lot of money if you know what to buy.

Printing out of newsletters may be a costly job, but with the right information, research and good printing shops, it need not be as costly as it should be.
