In life, there is always something new that will come up. This means that you will always be tempted into going with the flow and doing something else aside from that which you ought to be. While there are many things that may come up to distract, often referred to as the shiny object syndrome, it is important that you choose your goals.
Identified your goals
Ideally, you should select about two or three projects that you will need to focus on for success in your dream business. Focusing on too many things at any one time will pull the steam from your progress making you less of a force. Once you have identified your goals based on the needs of your business, then you will need to have laser focus on achieving them. Focusing on the goals that you have selected will not only push you to achieve them faster but also in a much better way.
How you rate new idea
When you get a new idea, there are some pointers that need to be at your fingertips. Always ask yourself these important questions that will help you decide if the new goal is worth the effort and time that you would like to engage in. to start with, consider the person who is bringing the idea to you. Do you know the person and how well do you know that person? In business you may meet new people, however, your relationship with an individual should determine your course of action. This means that you need to decide if you trust the person and whether he is an expert in the field that he is trying to sell you. If you accept the pitch then you also need to determine whether there is something else that you will give up as a result of saying yes.
Choose your goals one by one
In focusing on your goals, you ought to choose one goal that you are determined to achieve and then set out to achieve the same. Choosing too many goals will only have the net effect of de-focusing you. It will make you feel and get stretched too thin meaning that you will not be able to achieve anything. The famous statement “a jack of all trades and a master of none” comes to mind at this point. This is why you need to select just a couple of goals that you deem very important and then set out your plan to achieve them.
In focusing on your goals, you should give yourself timelines on when you would like to achieve these goals. Timelines with work plans for the achievement of the goals means that you will put yourself under pressure to achieve the goals you set within the specified timelines. It gives you the impetus that you need to go all the way and avoid the folly of procrastination. While it may look simple, focusing on your goals can be difficult. Making the plan is one part of the job, sticking to the plan is a whole other monster.
