Main Questions Asked

  • What is going on with Facebook’s news feed algorithm?
  • Fill us in on LinkedIn and the recent changes
  • Talk a little about Instagram and SnapChat

Key Lessons Learned

  • Facebook– When the average person goes on Facebook they could potentially be served with 1500 pieces of content so the organic news feed placement is a challenge for brands
  • Facebook organic reach used to be 18-20% but is now 2-3% however, a good organic post could hit 15%
  • Organic content has to have value that teaches, entertains or makes people think
  • Before you post ask yourself ‘how does this add value to people lives’
  • Facebook’s strategy is now ‘pay to play’ so its okay to put money behind your content
  • You can take a status update or post and pay to get specifically targeted reach
  • Asses if the people who liked your page 2 years ago are still your target customers
  •  Boost post – is not something that marketers use most often. Go into the back end of Facebook ads where you have control to target e.g mobile, news feed etc
  • LinkedIn – Recently introduced lower tiered pay plan and cover photos
  • It’s now a professional network rather than just for jobseekers
  • Recommendations and endorsements are still key to a solid profile
  •  Native advertising now appears in the content e.g. within the newsfeed
  • Instagram – Owned by Facebook but treated as its own entity
  • Features includephotos or videos up to 15 seconds and share on your feed
  • Users can like or comment however, you can’t re-share within the Instagram platform
  • You can add an external app to re-share other users content
  •  Pictures are easier to digest to users than text
  • SnapChat – Popular with teens and young adults
  • Photos are sent but timed so they disappear within 3-10 seconds (however can be screenshot)
  • Taco Bell and New Orleans Saints have both been effective users of this platform
