Ride Share Harry Campbell

On this special episode of Stick Like Glue Radio, I interview entrepreneur and the founder of The Ride Share Blog and Podcast, Harry Campbell. Harry has quickly established himself as one of the top rideshare industry experts in the fast-growing ride share industry. Don’t miss this powerful show!

Main Questions Asked:

  • Are you trying to be the hub for the rideshare industry?
  • Are there collective groups for on-demand drivers?
  • How else are you marketing yourself?
  • Was it a hard leap to go from corporate business to hiring a staff of virtual assistants?
  • What is on the horizon for your business?
  • What is your prediction on the industry?

Key Lessons Learned:

Ride Share Contractors

  • There are 400K Uber drivers, and the company is valued at $62.5B.
  • Lyft is a $4-5B company and is mentioned as a competitor to Uber, but runs a distant second when you look at the metrics of revenue and rides.
  • The drivers are 1099 contractors and are micro-entrepreneur owners.
  • The potential for the market is only at the beginning.
  • People think of Uber as a ride, but the company has introduced significant technological solutions that allow for efficiency.

If the cost of Uber is less than the cost of owning a car, there will be even more changes in the ride sharing economy.

Blogging as a Business

  • Harry aimed for 100K page views per month so he could make a full-time living out of the blog.
  • He now gets 500K page views per month.
  • There is a team of seven people who work part-time and a full-time sponsorship person for advertising and partnerships.
  • The blog has four articles and two YouTube videos per week, in addition to one podcast every two weeks.

Building an Audience

  • First create good content and build trust. This should take up 90% of your time in the first year.
  • A lot of Harry’s ad deals didn’t start coming in until a year into the blog.
  • Harry started finding communities that were already in existence and started interacting one-on-one in Facebook and Reddit.
  • One-on-one connections aren’t scalable forever, but really help get off the ground in the beginning when you have nothing to lose.

The Podcast & YouTube

  • Rideshare drivers are a captive audience and suited to listening to podcasts.
  • Harry started YouTube about a year after starting the blog and podcast.

Hiring Virtual Assistants

  • Harry started by hiring writers to create three articles per week, and sourced the people from his audience.

Future

  • The goal is to maintain the voice of the blog and business, and scale up in order to reach more people.
