Key Lessons Learned

  • When managing a group, program development and calendar management is key
  • Maintain foundational events but build out new topics to keep group interest
  • The entrepreneurial story is a strong connection between business owners. Use it.
  • You can take what makes you special locally and scale it out to share your message nationally or globally
  • Going from idea to implementation is often where people fall short
  • E-mail lists are effective for one-on-one communication but its not the only way; Facebook ‘groups’ are also useful in addition to Facebook ‘pages.’ Test both.
  • Opt-in e-mail lists are not the roadblock you often think it is, so try different ways to build and you might be surprised with the results and numbers
  • Consistency is important in all aspects of business. When you say ‘weekly’ you must deliver. If you don’t you are viewed as unreliable.
  • Consistency paints a picture of you how seriously you take dedication and your audience
  •  Jay Conrad Levinson said bad marketing done consistently will beat great marketing done in inconsistently

 

Facebook Groups

  • A group is a way for the community to talk to each other whereas a page is only good for the community to talk to the business
  • 1. Build the page itself
  • 2. Create guidelines for the group
  • 3. Ask people to be brand ambassadors on your group who can pose questions and
  • 4. Aim for active engagement (likes, comments, shares) to get things rolling. Have them activate conversation.
  • 5. Run targeted ads and invite people to join your group
  • Time will need to be spent nurturing, growing and responding
  •  Be wary of spammers and make sure to monitor
