While customer retention is key to a sustainable Dream Business, you must know how to get clients in the door.

Maybe you aren’t sure how.

Or you don’t have time to do it on a regular basis due to current clients.

Perhaps your budget doesn’t allow for big marketing and advertising right now – I don’t watch the “news”, but people tell me their stories and some of them aren’t poverty mindset BS from Squishyville.

There are some simple ways to learn how to get clients that are not extremely time-consuming or expensive.

And, you can get help doing this.

How to Get Clients: A Daily Activity List

The following 8 techniques can be used on a daily basis, or you can go through the list doing one or two a day and then simply rotate.

The more of these ideas you incorporate, the more you will be putting yourself, your company, and your brand in the mind of those who are most likely to need your services.

1. Check Online Job Boards Daily

This first one is “out of the box” – but keep in mind your competition is dismissing this idea while blowing money they don’t even have on social media advertising.

Depending on the type of work you do, check the online job boards for your area or the areas you work on a regular basis.

There are several of these including Craigslist, Indeed, Dribble, Reddit for Hire, and so on.

Set notifications to alert you when jobs matching your keywords and location are posted.

Just remember: companies need problems solved.

Maybe they need your company more than they need an employee – show them!

2. Ask for Referrals

Choose one client you have that has not sent a referral your way and reach out.

This can be  just indicating how much you enjoyed working with them, and that you would appreciate a referral to their network and colleagues.

Most clients that are happy with your work are happy to pass this on, and this is just a gentle nudge to do it soon.

3. Use a Professional Network

A professional network or a small business network that meets once a month or once a quarter in your local area is a rich source of potential clients.

Just remember that these groups work on mutual support and assistance, and you will need to be willing to share information and ideas to get actual referrals for paid work.

4. How to Get Clients Using Social Media Sites

For B2B sales or work, one of the best options is to use social media sites such as LinkedIn.

Twitter and Facebook as well as other niche types of social media sites can also work for some sales professionals, but they tend to be more social than directed to professional services.

5. Become an Expert

It is not at all difficult to share knowledge online and elevate your brand to a recognized and trusted source.

When it comes to how to get clients, this is one of the best and the most effective.

Consider writing a “how to” guide on your area of expertise, or perhaps do a series of podcasts, online videos, or even put together an online course like my Mastermind clients do.

Writing an ebook and using it as a free download will provide you with a list of potential targeted leads as well without any effort on your part.

You can write and publish a Celebrity Expert Branding book – I’ve done a dozen of my own and helped scores of others with theirs.

6. Speak at Conferences, Trade Shows, and Events

Along with writing, offer your services to speak at a conference, convention, trade show, or a local community event.

Organizers of these events are always looking for informative, entertaining speakers, and it is a great way to reach out to a new group of potential clients.

Here’s more information on how to sell from the stage like a pro.

7. Podcasting, Podcasting, Podcasting

I’ve hosted Dream Business Radio for over a decade now.

Doing this has been a consistent, powerful source of leads and opportunities, including podcast guests who went on to attend my events, speak at my events, and join my VIP Mastermind program.

You can quickly build your Celebrity Expert Brand and become an influencer by hosting your own podcast – I highly recommend it.

And it’s really not that hard to get booked as a guest – obviously I have someone I highly recommend to help – plus you can have some fun on your own!

8. Most Of All, Don’t Give Up!

Stay positive.

Stay hungry.

A much-cited study by Leads360 that has stood the test of time shows that, on average, it takes six calls to the same individual before you make a sale.

This means that you need to be willing to call potential clients at least six times before you give up on the account.

(Here’s help making your first call.)

Perseverance and a good sales message when you do get through are going to be essential in connecting with clients and growing your customer base.
