Stick Like Glue Radio #194: Pillars of Business Mastery – Mike Agugliaro

On this special episode of Stick Like Glue Radio, I interview serial entrepreneur Mike Agugliaro. Mike is co-owner of New Jersey’s largest and respected home services company, Gold Medal Service, and also the founder of the CEO Warrior program. Don’t miss this powerful show!

Main Questions Asked:

  • Talk about mastering mindset.
  • Did a lot of your confidence come from martial arts?
  • Did you have a success mindset early in business, or did it develop recently?
  • How does critical alignment work with someone who has a staff?
  • How do you use critical alignment in Gold Medal Services?

Key Lessons Learned:

Mindset

  • Mike figured out his brain would do what he told it, over and over.
  • The big problem with helping people go to the next level is that people are looking for more knowledge.
  • Until you have your mindset aligned, prepared, and convinced that change will be easy, you won’t be ready to consume more information.
  • Once you identify the mindset, you stand the ultimate chance to win.

The Paradigm Shift

  • You can become disempowered, or you can use any experience, good or bad, and create empowerment.

Future Thinking

  • This can be a painful process if you look decades into the future, and can force you to make a decision.

Critical Alignment

  • This is a missing piece in communication in general.
  • A lot of relationships, both personal and in business, struggle due to the lack of alignment.
  • You can’t have alignment until you have clarity on what and when you will do things.
  • Without alignment, you can never hold someone truly accountable to an outcome.

Employee Alignment

  • Every person at the company needs to know the target in order to be able to row in the same direction.
  • Profit, growth, and expansion are a given, but to what level?

Accountability

  • Accountability creates a culture and a mindset inside a company where average is not acceptable.
  • If you are accountable, then you need clarity on what one expects and when and how one knows if one is winning or losing.
  • If conversations aren’t had, it’s easy for people to misread winning or losing.
  • Hire people who love to be held accountable for delivering the best performance every day.

Communication is Clarity and Alignment

  • When someone says there isn’t enough communication, they often mean that there isn’t enough clarity and alignment between departments.
